Recommended events

Here we have aimed to provide you with a list of recommended events for 2008 as well as some annual events. Events here are listed because they are known to us to offer either structured progression or a specific challenge.

 

If you have been to one of these events and would like to tell us how you got on we would love to hear from you. Similarly, if you know of events that are missing, feel that an event has been represented, or would like to add an event to this list please email us.

Netheravon and Hibaldstow

May at Netheravon will be led by Billy Payn.

In June two or more 20 way groups will be run at Netheravon by Caroline Hughes and Billy Payn (according to demand)

In August groups will be run by Caroline Hughes at Netheravon

In September a 36 way formation skills challenge will be run at Hibaldstow alongside the 50 way challenge led by Simon Cathrine.

May = multiple group levels

June = multiple group levels

August = intermediate

September = intermediate + upper intermediate.

Z Team events

March/April annually

Zhills , USA

Z Team have run many large scale events including sequential records in the past.

Experienced - high experience level. A good mailing list to get onto if you are interested in 100+ way opportunities.

Usually for high experienced jumpers but Milko does run some events for the up and coming jumpers too.

Various dropzones

Invitational event in which groups will tackle complex formation challenges. Dives will focus on technical precision and excellent discipline.

Caroline specialises in high movement (dance) dive designs and complex build challenges.

These are high experienced events recommended for people wanting to sharpen up and improve their technical skills and gain Skydive Choreography references for other invitational events.

Back to the Future

16th - 20th April

Spaceland, USA

A hot challenge event run by BJ Worth with goals, not just to build 100 ways, but to build some very tough 100 ways.

This is one of the highest level invitational events running this year. Multiple world class references required.

We are hoping for a repeat event next year - so watch this space!

Big Way Beginners

Flagship Skydive Choreography events for beginners where experienced people support the learning and push their own limits.

These events are focused on skills no completions. Highly recommended for beginners wanting to learn the basics in a very safe environment and get to know the big way crowd!

Perris Performance Plus Big Way Camps

1st - 4th May

Perris , USA

The Perris Big Way Camps with Kate Cooper are long established and very successful. By taking jumpers outside their comfort zones push knowledge and extend their skills.

Kate Cooper's big way camps are a must for any jumper serious about progressing in the large formation discipline.

Intermediate and upper intermediates in particular should attend these. To participate you need to have 250 jumps, 50 jumps in the last 12 months, have been on at least a 20 way and have the ability to close 12th or later on a consistent basis.

Langar Boogies

3rd - 11th May

Langar, UK

Organising available all week with 4 or more on hand over the weekends. Organisers include Billy, Caroline, Milko and others.

We understand that there are no invitation only groups running at the boogie this year.

There is something for all levels here and with multiple organisers there is also an opportunity to move around groups and gather lots of references!

Perris Performance Plus 100 way camps

8th - 11th May

Perris, USA

This event follows the P3 Big way Camp and is an excellent 'first 100 way event' as well as one you'll want to keep doing every year!

These events are invitation only and offered to big way camp participants and previous attendees as a priority.

Arizona Challenge

22nd - 26th May

Eloy, USA

This long established event is an ultimate goal for many large formation skydivers. Smaller dives testing build principles gradually merge to attempt one complex formation (which is not guaranteed by any means!)

This is one of the highest level invitational events running this year. Multiple world class references required.

Battle of the Sexes

7th & 8th June

Langar, UK

New annual event where single sex teams compete for the ultimate title!

Dives will challenge and test under pressure.

This is an invitational event and 'friendly' competition aimed at experienced jumpers but anyone can enter a team!

Gap Vector Festival

21st - 29th June

Gap-Tallard, France

This annual boogie is a great vibe with good organisers.

Good for all levels and those within to combine a holiday with a skydiving trip. Gap is stunning.

Patrick Passe invitationals

28th - 29th June

Gap-Tallard, France

Caroline Hughes of Skydive Choreography is filling half the slots at this event being run by Patrick Passe during the Vector Festival. Patrick's organising is lots of fun, well thought out and 'technically' challenging.

This is a great opportunity for high experienced jumpers not yet on the 'challenge event' mailing list to gain an additional respected referee for international events including World Team.

 

11th - 13th April

Sept 12th - 14th

Brienne le Chateau, France These are Patrick Passe's Random 40 & 48 way events - known for unique, interesting and technical challenges. These are high experience invitational events. Patrick accepts references from Skydive Choreography (Caroline) so please email for advice.

P3 Power Play

2nd - 5th July

Perris, California

A top challenge event run by Dan BC. Challenges world class jumpers to build the impossible. High precision required.

This is one of the highest level invitational events running this year. Multiple world class references required.

Mission Impossible

3rd - 6th July

Cerfontaine, Belgium

One of a number of excellent "Arizona Challenge" format events being run by Airspeed team members across Europe this year.

World class coaches give experienced and high experienced jumpers the chance to secure references.

Recommended for those with World Team ambitions. Good references required.

28 way competition

12th & 13th July

Hibaldstow, UK

Four (known) teams are planned for the competition this year with slots still available on some. Combining competition with large formations requires different skills and great team players!

Experienced and high experienced jumpers should consider applying to us for a slot on our team.

Swedish Big Way Camp

3rd - 8th August

Gryttjom, Sweden

This big way camp now follows Kate Coopers successful Perris camp formula - coercing jumpers outside their comfort zones in order to extend their skills.

Kate Cooper's big way camps (and events with similar formats) are a must for any jumper serious about progressing in the large formation discipline.

Intermediate and upper intermediates in particular should attend these.

SPAcial Invitationals

16th - 18th August

SPA, Belgium

An excellent "Arizona Challenge" format event with top class coaches including Craig Girard, Eliana Rodriguez and Ian 'Milko' Hodgkinson.

Recommended for experienced and high experienced jumpers with World Team ambitions.

This event uniquely offers an 'in' for intermediate and upper intermediate jumpers too. Smaller groups with similar challenges offer the first steps onto a very cool ladder.

References required for various group levels.

Hibaldstow
50 way event

6th - 7th Sept

Hibaldstow, UK

A 50 way event in its third year now. Led this year by Simon Cathrine it promises a good turn out of jumpers and another opportunity to meet the regular UK big way jumpers.

50 ways from the outset on this event mean that previous large formation experience is essential. Plenty of opportunities to prove yourself through the year in the UK though - so be sure to gather good references as you go!

POPs Mini Boogies

11th - 15th Sept

Billy Payn is involved in this event. Details are still being finalised

POPS

Airspeed Challenge

25th - 28th Sept

Empuriabrava, Spain

A slightly smaller version of the Arizona Challenge with identical format. Attracts top jumpers from across Europe .

This is one of the highest level invitational events running in Europe this year.

POPS World Record

3rd - 5th Oct

Perris, USA

Exactly what it says on the tin! Record event for parachutists over the age of forty.

Experience- high experience event. References will no doubt be required for this.

Skydive Spain Christmas Boogie

Seville, Spain

This boogie really put itself on the map last year and is very much on the up with a fantastic turnaround and a friendly atmosphere. There are good organisers and plenty more besides including wing suiting and canopy schooling.

Load organising for all levels and a great progression opportunity for all.

Dates are still TBC, but it's definitely happening.

Caroline is confirmed as an organiser again so email her or the DZ if you need more info.

Empuria Christmas Boogie

20th Dec - 4th Jan

Empuriabrava, Spain

A long established , great vibe Christmas boogie with plenty of organisers on hand - including Billy Payn, so have a chat if you want more info.

Load organising for all levels and a good progression opportunity for intermediates in particular.

Thai Sky Festival
